A very informative event. CloudSec is a venue where technology and security evangelists gathered together to share insights and knowledge to everyone. Ransomware demo was presented and viewers were able to take a deep dive on how it can penetrate your computer and what it does. Several used cases were also discussed.

Some types of Ransomware: Have you been a victim?
What is Ransomware?
From http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/us/security/definition/ransomware,
Ransomware is a type of malware that prevents or limits users from accessing their system, either by locking the system's screen or by locking the users' files unless a ransom is paid. More modern ransomware families, collectively categorized as crypto-ransomware, encrypt certain file types on infected systems and forces users to pay the ransom through certain online payment methods to get a decrypt key.
Delivery Channels
1. Through attachments usually from spammed emails.
2. Through visiting a malicious or compromised website
3. It can also come as a payload either dropped or downloaded by other malware.
4. Through downloading from malvertisements
Best Practices:
- Always backup
- Strict Access Control
- Patch Regularly
- Educate all employees on signs of malicious attachs
