MANILA, Philippines – As the filing period for candidacies nears its end, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has reported a strong and active response from electoral aspirants, signaling a robust democratic process for the upcoming elections under the leadership of Chair George Erwin M. Garcia.
As of December 7, 2024, at 4:38 p.m., a total of 4,646 registration forms have been received online via Google Forms, excluding submissions from private individuals or entities. Among these, 27 senatorial aspirants have registered, while 4,500 local candidates have filed for various local positions. Additionally, 119 party-list groups, organizations, and coalitions have submitted their registration forms, further expanding the pool of candidates for the upcoming election.
In addition to the online submissions, 2,509 aspirants have also transmitted hard copies of their documents to COMELEC offices, ensuring compliance with the Commission's requirements. This total excludes 53 private individuals who filed their documents before the promulgation of COMELEC Resolution No. 11064-A.
As the deadline for candidacy submissions approaches, COMELEC is intensifying efforts to review all registrations in accordance with the Commission's resolutions and guidelines. The substantial number of submissions reflects strong participation across political levels, contributing to a dynamic and competitive election cycle.
With just days remaining before the final submission deadline, COMELEC is urging all candidates to finalize their filings and ensure compliance with all documentation requirements to facilitate smooth processing ahead of the campaign period.
