Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Why am
I being told "your school account is no longer active"?
2. Will I
lose my files if the license expires?
- Files on your computer: No. Any file saved to your
"Documents" or "Desktop" folder stays on your computer
forever.
- Files on OneDrive: YES, you could lose
access. If your files are saved in the "Cloud" (OneDrive)
associated with the school license, you must move them to a personal
location (USB, Google Drive, or personal OneDrive) to keep them.
3. What
happens to the Word/Excel apps if the license is removed? The apps will enter "Reduced
Functionality Mode." You will still be able to open and print your
existing documents, but you will not be able to edit them or create new ones.
You will see a "Product Deactivated" notification at the top of the
app.
4. Can I
still use Microsoft Office for free? Yes! Microsoft offers Office Online for
free. You can use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for free in any web browser (like
Chrome or Edge) by signing in with a personal Microsoft account at Office.com.
It has almost all the same features as the desktop version.
5. What
are the best free alternatives if I don't want to pay?
- Google Workspace: Google Docs, Sheets, and
Slides are free and very popular among educators.
- LibreOffice: A completely free,
professional-grade software you can install on your computer that works
just like Microsoft Office without needing an internet connection.
- WPS Office: A free app that looks and
feels almost identical to Microsoft Word/Excel.
6. How
much does a personal Microsoft license cost in the Philippines? If you prefer to have your own
