Finally, DOST-ITDI has virtually launched its very first Halal cosmetic products last Dec. 14, 2021. The launch, “Let’s Talk Jamiil: Halal Personal Care (Exploring the Muslim World of Beauty,” was attended by DOST Secretary Fortunato Boy Dela Pena, Undersecretary for R&D Dr. Rowena Guevarra, DOST-ITDI Director Annabelle Briones, DOST Halal Program Leader Dr. Anthony Sales, Deputy Director for Research and Development, Dr. Christine Marie C. Montessa; Deputy Director for Administrative and Technical Services, Dr. Zorayda V. Ang.
Presented on the launch were the first five products namely, moisturizing lipstick, lip balm, herbal whitening toothpaste, moisturizing and lightening soap, and shampoo with hair-growing properties.
These are
formulated in accordance with the Malaysian Standard 2634:2019 Halal Cosmetics
General Requirement and follow the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to ensure
quality and safe product development process.
Since the
products conformed with Halal standards, this only means that these products
that we will use for our face and body were not produced using animal-based
ingredients and cleaned genetically modified organism of the gene host and
alcohol. These products are guaranteed safe to use and ethically produced using
natural and organic materials.
Halal cosmetics
and toiletries have a huge potential demand in the country. Both Muslim and
non-Muslim segments pose potential in different respects: clean and permissible
for the former; natural, organic and ethical for the latter.
